Obituary
Robi Roy, one of India’s finest bridge players,
passed away at his residence on Tuesday after a prolonged illness. Roy who was
80, is survived by his wife and a daughter. Roy started his bridge career way back in
1952 and continued till 1993. Besides representing India
in the Bridge Olympiad several times, Roy won
the Pairs event in the Far East Bridge Championship in Tokyo partnering Sudhir
Ganguly in 1977 and repeated the feat the next year at the same tournament in Delhi in
tandem with M.S.Tibrewala. He was also a member of the team that won the Ruia
Gold Cup six times, Holkar and Singhania trophy four times each. Besides being
a bridge player of extremely high quality and caliber, his play out was
absolutely magical. We the bridge fraternity prays to the ALMIGHTY for a
peaceful rest of the departed soul.
